Camelot unchained minstrel3/16/2023 I am not sure how you can really call them "separate zones". And if the enemy guards didn't kill you on sight, you could proceed right into the enemy realms and explore every inch of their "continent" without a loading screen (other than the minor hitch when entering the Capitol cities). You could enter the frontier from your realm (without a loading screen) and travel across several maps to the other two realms' border gates without ever seeing a single loading screen. Ok, so you know how the map was laid out. Wake up in the morning, and an enemy group who attacked in the middle of the "real life" night took everything back. Not instanced, true, but still separate zones, making them feel artificial, not part of the world.Īnd oh yes, the frontier zones where so amazing. I played DAoC since early beta, and into release. Half price for the game plus the extras given to early adopters is a sweet deal. I'd suggest to anyone even slightly interested in seeing Camelot Unchained get made, go for the $25 pledge tier. PvE won't be an issue because, while there will be npcs and mobs, you won't be able to skill-up/level up/get phat loot that way. People forget how it was in the early days. They added it later so people could participate in RvR earlier without having to worry about being one-shot-killed by a level 50. But those weren't even in the game when it launched. The low-level Battlegrounds were instanced. They are a group of maps that link the three realm maps (which also are not instanced). The Frontier zones were not/are not instanced. So I guess you never RvR'd in the frontier zones. One of the worse things that happened to the MMO genre in my opinion.Īnd the PvE in DAoC is one of the worse I've seen in any MMORPG I've played, and I played a lot. Well, DAoC is the game which introduced "canned PvP in instanced zones" to the genre. I also like the fact that they're going with a subs model, looking for loyal fans that each pay towards the game, rather than F2P with a few paying a lot and the rest needing enticement. I'm a bit worried that if people don't give niche things like this some vote of confidence, then we'll end up with the same old WoW-copy MMOs for the foreseeable future. I backed it because it sounds as though they are trying to do something a bit different, and I am all in favour of being inventive. I also love the idea of being able to make a career out of being a crafter - living in a world where my goods are needed by others, and where I can participate in creating homes and guild halls, and make my money and my friends through being a skilled artisan and merchant.īut tbh, I didn't back it for just those reasons. If the RvR in Camelot Unchained is half as good, it will be brilliant. You'd log off many nights feeling as though you'd taken part in a big movie rather than played a game. I remember spending a fun night just organising emergency runs to a supply keep to get wood to repair doors. A lot of this is because you weren't on your own, you were part of a big team all helping each other and if you weren't particularly good at fighting (like me!) you could still make a valuable contribution by being a look out, buffing and healing, mending the castle doors, or setting up siege equipment. The lute gains additional power based on the number of wounds on members of the user’s group.I wouldn't class myself as a PvP player, I don't have the reflexes for a start and I am generally far too much of a wuss. The user’s current song spreads across a massive range by consuming the user’s remaining blood over a moderate duration.Ī giant lute will appear near the dying user’s head and their current song will persist beyond their death for a long duration. Increases song ability radius and initial power, but increases the effect of Fading Melody. Provides an aura that damages nearby enemies and reduces their resistance to poison and disease effects. Damage taken while under the effect of this aura breaks the effect, and applies a physical debuff that prevents song effects for a brief duration. Provides an aura that increases the movement speed of the player and nearby allies in their group. Greatly increases the power of song abilities, and reduces the effect of Fading Melody.
